INTRODUCTION
============
Do you have a hard time deciding which of your word
processors should handle a given .DOC file? Or which
graphics program should load and display a given image?
Do you have your .TXT files associated with NOTEPAD, but
would like to open them with different applications now
and then. Well, then Multi-Choice is for you!
Multi-Choice lets you associate up to TEN applications
to any given file type. Then, whenever you want to open
a file with that extension by double-clicking the file-
name, Multi-Choice pops up and displays your choices.
All you have to do is decide which application will
handle your file, and click the button.
=============
PROGRAM SETUP
=============
(1.) Create a directory for the program, such as
C:\MChoice.
(2.) Copy all of the Multi-Choice files into the new
directory.
(3.) Set up an icon (or shortcut) for the MCHOICE.EXE
file.
That's it! Now just run the MCHOICE.EXE file to begin...
==================
USING MULTI-CHOICE
==================
After associating an extension to Multi-Choice, double-
click on any associated filename displayed by File Manager
or Windows 95 Explorer. The Multi-Choice menu buttons will
appear. Click on (or arrow key to) the desired application
button. Multi-Choice starts your application then
immediately closes itself.
========================
ADDING A NEW ASSOCIATION
========================
After running the program, select ADD from the menu.
Enter the file extension in the first box, Then enter
up to ten program names (full paths) in the Application
boxes. You can either type in the paths manually, or
use the browse buttons to locate them. (You must enter
at least one application to associate.) Then SAVE your
new entry... The extension will then be associated with
Multi-Choice. The Registry will be updated immediately,
as well as the WIN.INI file. Then, the next time you
double-click a filename with this extension, Multi-Choice
will display your choices!
======================
EDITING AN ASSOCIATION
======================
To make changes to an association, select EDIT from the
menu and select the extension. Make the desired changes
in the application boxes, and then select SAVE CHANGES.
If you want them in different button positions, select
REORDER from the menu. Then enter the application numbers
in the order you want them to appear. When finished,
select SAVE CHANGES. If you want to edit more than one
association, be sure to SAVE the CHANGES before selecting
the next extension to edit. And always SAVE your CHANGES
before you EXIT, or your changes will not be saved.
Click EXIT when your ready to leave the EDIT screen.
=====================
REMOVING AN EXTENSION
=====================
This is done from the EDIT menu. Just select the extension
from the list box, then choose REMOVE EXTENSION on the
menu.
=============
SETUP options
=============
Two settings can be changed at any time via the SETUP menu.
(1.) Show complete file names on button labels? (yes or no)
Selecting "no" will display the file names on the buttons
without their extensions...
Selecting "yes" will display the file names on the buttons
with their extensions included...
(2.) Go directly to application on single choice? (yes or no)
If you associate a file type to a single application, you can
choose to go directly to that application when you double-
click the file name, or you can have Multi-Choice appear with
a single button for that application. Choose "no" if you want
Multi-Choice to appear, or choose "yes" to go directly to the
application.
Note: This setting only applies to an association with a
single application choice... if a file type is associated with
two or more applications, Multi-Choice will ignore this setting,
and will always appear.
